Our Purpose
In this lab, we want to look at brain differences that may occur in individuals with disordered speech. This includes speech sound disorder, autism spectrum disorder, and neurodegenerative disorders. The systems used for speech-motor control in these populations are not highly researched. We intend to study this topic in a greater manner by comparing the behavioral, acoustical, and imaging findings of these groups to typically developing controls. Understanding the behaviors and brain pathways related to these disorders will not only improve and expand the field but also allow for better treatment plans to be made.
Research
1
Why Is Research Important?
Scientific research is important to help improve our understanding of the diagnosis and treatment of speech disorders. We want to ask questions and pursue answers about what causes speech disorders to occur, how they relate to other symptoms, and what they mean in the daily lives of people who experience these disorders.
2
Who Can Be Involved in Research?
We need people like you to participate in our research! It is important to us to include people of many different backgrounds and life circumstances in our research so they are represented in our understanding of speech disorders.
3
What Are We Researching?
We are currently preparing to start a study about child speech development. Parents of potential participants can check back soon for more details!
